Beauty Collective Hair Salon Event - Teens helping TeensBeauty Collective Salon is excited to be hosting it’s 4th annual day-long celebration for Big Family of Michigan on Sunday December 2, 2012. This event is open to the public and aims to be a huge success

In conjunction with Jeanne Fowler, the founder of Big Family of Michigan, Beauty Collective Salon is collecting donations for foster teen girls ages 11-18 years old. These young adults typically have nothing except for what the state can provide. Most have been abandoned, neglected, and/or abused. Therefore, it is our pleasure to do whatever we can to help out in the slightest bit with these teens.

For this event, local teen girls are invited to come with a donation of a tote bag or purse containing a personal journal as well as things such as body wash, body lotions, perfumes, lip gloss, manicure kits, nail polishes, hair accessories, books, or anything a teen girl wold enjoy.

In return they will receive haircuts, manicures, eyebrow shaping along with food & beverages. Jeanne Fowler herself will be at the salon to talk about The Big Family of Michigan.

Every day I wake up extremely grateful to be able to do what I love for a living, but on this day I woke up even more grateful than usual. To be surrounded by fellow artists, on a beautiful beach doing what I love-I had to pinch myself, does it get any better than this? I think not. On top of it all, I was asked to recreate makeup and hair from my favorite generation, the 50’s. My first thought was to do the standard Marilyn curls, but then the environment became a huge factor when I realized how windy it was on the beach. Improvisation can be an artist’s best friend! After I finished the retro makeup I decided to do a side ‘do on the local actress/model, Mackenzie Conn, which luckily held up all day! With vintage swimwear provided by Mariposa’s Clothing and Accessories, and the amazing photographer, Joe Polimeni of www.polipix.com, this shoot was a success! With that being said, do what you love and love what you do.
